The National Identification Authority (NIA), the Ghana Chamber of Telecommuncations (GCT) and the Digital Chamber of Ghana (DCG) have pledged to deepen collaboration to strengthen Ghana’s digital identity, mobile and digital financial ecosystem. This follows a high-level meeting between the leadership of the three organizations in Accra, aimed at building a more secure and efficient digital ecosystem that leverages Ghana’s national ID infrastructure.
The meeting, happended on the back of the introduction of the new CEO of the two (2) Chambers, Mrs. Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah, to the leadership of the NIA led by its Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Wisdom Kwaku Deku. The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest including biometric verification, interoperability, pricing frameworks, and data integrity.
Mr. Dekur eaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s identification ecosystem as the backbone of trust for digital transactions and verifications. He noted that the NIA’s goal is to ensure biometric verification becomes the standard for identity authentication across sectors, including telecommunications, digital finance, and e-commerce among others.
Mrs. Owusu-Ankomah commended the NIA for its pivotal role in advancing Ghana’s digital transformation and underscored the Chamber’s readiness to work closely with the Authority to improve policy alignment and operational efficiency.
The two organizations agreed to establish a Technical and Financial Working Group comprising representatives from the three organizations. This group will among other things explore operational and financial models for ID verification, data sharing, and interoperability between platforms.
All parties at the meeting, emphasized the urgency of enhancing data security, privacy, and system resilience to maintain public trust and accelerate Ghana’s transition to a secure, inclusive digital economy. The engagement marks the beginning of what al three entities described as a strategic partnership for national impact.
